Art Week in Miami at the Les Couleurs Art Gallery Dec 2-7, 2024

One of my goals for my art career this year was to make sure that whatever happened for the year, I would find a way to show my art during the week of Art Basel/ Art Miami. However, the opportunity I managed to find was not what I expected—and thus, it became a learning opportunity for me regarding the South Florida art scene and where I stand. The gallery is on Flager Street, nestled in the heart of the business district. For artists trying to find a balance between cost and exposure, this gallery has consistent events every month marketed through Instagram with fairly budget-friendly prices. It is one of the ways to meet fellow artists and collectors as you get your work out there.
It ran from Monday to Saturday and for the first time, I had seven pieces for my collection that were completely different from the work I had usually done over the years.

My collection is “The World Inside of Me,” with several paintings done in Mixed Media inspired by my journey of reflection through Shibari – the Japanese art form of rope tying. It was an interesting conundrum connecting with people who had reactions ranging from aversion to fascination. I had to find ways in which to share my vision which was a good exercise to pull me out of my shell. The core story at the end of the day is that even with the restrictions outside of ourselves, everything that we need is inside of us. I think as the week wore on, I realized people would have connected better had brought certain elements to support my pieces. In the future, it would help if I had my biography on hand so that the collectors and the audience could learn about me. Then a blurb about my collection so that I would not have to repeat myself and hang around as much. The other things that came to mind as the week wore on and I went to Art Basel and Art Miami were QR codes, prints, maybe free postcards, or even sets of postcards that could be purchased. The exhibitions that followed mine, led to me dissecting them not from the angle of an artist but as a curator. The takeaway from all this is, how can I in the future support other artists and myself in a way that celebrates us to show the best of ourselves? Where everything or as many things are set up to ensure the success of everyone. Where everything or as many things are set up to ensure the success of everyone. The gallery was good for what I needed to learn and thanks to them, I will take the lessons and observations to strive to new horizons.
